She took off her hat and shook the water off it, and brushed some water from her coat before shrugging it off and draping it over her arm. The occasional smokiness of the fire made her eyes water a little, but the warmth was pleasant after being outdoors.

"I am famous for my adaptability," she said, self-mocking. More soberly: "Not that this precludes me from eventually having a good cry as soon as the reality of the situation hits me later, but I generally try not to panic in strange situations."
