sit yourself down, and meet the best inn keeper in town ( O P E N )

Who: Everyone!
Where: The initial arrival rooms, the main lobby, all over the place.
When: February 3rd
What: Welcome, newbies.

ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is a warmly crackling fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, though only one of them is open to the public. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.
on a tall pull-down screen, a silent version of nosferatu will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old timey music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl that looked like it once would have held popcorn. but is now unfortunately empty. same for the large hot drink dispensers labeled "hot chocolate" and "coffee".

OTHER.
the ballroom and breakfast hall are currently closed, grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the door to the courtyard is locked.

ROOMS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors one & two. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'd be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

[shrug] I've had worse.

[Have a knowing smile.] Yeah, I'm sure you have. But it still wasn't fair of me, so I'm sorry.
gloriouscurse: (; this seems shady)

[She needs a drink. She needs a very large, very strong drink, but she's not sure she's going to have that any time soon.]

I'm going to...unpack. Whatever the hell it is I can do here that's not restrictive.

[Not that she wants to unpack and give this place any ideas about her staying, but she has to do something.]
carjacked: (I just wanna know)

[personal profile] carjacked 2015-02-10 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ His lips tug into something sympathetic, but he nods. ]

No kidding. If I find anything out I'll let you know, okay?

[ In the meantime, he's got a suitcase of his own he hasn't explored yet. ]

[Hey, for all you know he's talking about mouthing off at one of the million and one benefit galas Bruce makes him attend.]

So. Fresh start?
gloriouscurse: (Default)

[personal profile] gloriouscurse 2015-02-10 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[She says it sincerely, then turns to go, just trying to make sense of something, anything.]
engender: (spies smugly)

Neither am I.

[There's an exasperated sigh then, and she rubs at her face.]

Magic isn't exactly strong here.

[In example, she tries to make fire in her palm, and all he gets for a show, is a wisp of smoke.]

See?
gloriouscurse: (Default)

[personal profile] gloriouscurse 2015-02-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, what does she look? If you're going to look out for my son, I'll look out for her.

Fresh start, [she agrees, feeling oddly relieved. Odd, because before running into him here, she was pretty good with avoiding him for as long as they're stuck here. But now... maybe she can come to terms with this Tim being--well, not her Tim.]

...It should go without saying, but I feel like I should say--any secrets of my Tim that might apply to you? They're safe with me.
64th: (mkay. no hard feelings but i hate you)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-10 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ Cashmere shrugs. she's just going to leave her room trashed for a while. she's never been particularly tidy anyway. what's the point?

she doesn't pull her eyes away from Johanna, who looks so different from the last time they saw one another. she's been tough since she won, little but fierce enough that you'd hardly notice how Cashmere towers over her. right now though, she looks as young as she is. and yes - tired too. Cashmere actually feels sorry for her. ]

You're not really going to sleep, are you? This place is - [ not the kind of place Cashmere's going to sleep easy in. ] We shouldn't trust it.
totheright: (casual)

[personal profile] totheright 2015-02-10 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would be nice. That way, if anyone came, we could get them in touch with whoever they'd like to see pretty quickly. We could announce it over the tablet networks or whatever, too.

Panem? ((He asks, then shakes his head. It's probably one of those small inconsequential countries that he's never heard of.)) I've never heard of it. I'm from Tokyo.
64th: (yes i am amazing)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-10 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ she nods. that's a good way to put it. ]

There's a tablet with a camera in your room. I don't know what it's for so I hid mine. There's no food and no staff. And no way to get out. Yet. I can't really find anything nice to say about it.

And now you know everything I do.

Well, that makes one of us. I've never seen the real deal. Things that some people might call magic, but there was always a reasonable explanation for it, in the end.

[ She's still working on the reasonable explanation for what the hell happened in the temple. ]
starspangled: (Default)

[personal profile] starspangled 2015-02-10 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
'We'? [Steve repeats the word, looking at her for the answer to his unspoken question. Hydra making another comeback is about the worst possible news he can imagine. But for all he knows, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s in pieces. Who's fighting them now?

And then, naturally, it actually does get worse. And for all the questions that Steve still has, there's one thing that's completely clear:
]

We have to find a way out of this hotel.
taurohtar: (Default)

[personal profile] taurohtar 2015-02-10 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the reasonable explanation is magic. [Seriously, what more reasonable explanation do you need? Tauriel has known magic all her life. She hasn't been able to create any of it, no, her skills with such things are incredibly limited, but that is not the case with others. Her King has been able to cast magics on their homeland, and the wizards, of course, are great conjurers.

Magic it is.]

...I wonder if there is some way to contact the wizards.

Because you went to war.

[Bucky and so many other good men, and Steve didn't have the right to stay behind. So when Erskine all but whispered to him from a dark alley, Steve was more than willing to suffer for the chance to join him.]

It's what I wanted.

[And it seems important to make that clear, the difference between the two of them. None of it was forced on Steve; he's angry every day that it was forced on Bucky.]

hacker: (and say you love me)

[personal profile] hacker 2015-02-10 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. My team. The Director, anyone who's left.

[ No one ever told her. In all the times Coulson established that they didn't know he was back, no one ever warned Skye that it was hush-hush. So when she avoids his name, it's not deliberate. In fact, it's slightly clinical. Detaching herself from the sadness she'd felt at his side after her father had pulverized him. Detaching herself from the fear of how he'd react to her now. ]

And that's great, I'd agree, except needing to do it doesn't make the doing it any easier. I've been trying to get in touch with them since I woke up: there's no connection reaching outside of this building. We're on our own. So unless you wanna you know. [ one-two punch that never actually contacts him. ] Superheroic your way out one of these windows. I sure as hell haven't been able to do it.
trepidations: (dark ¬ hurt)

[personal profile] trepidations 2015-02-10 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
I've... never heard of it, then. And I'm not that terrible at geography. I mean, I paid attention in muggle studies.

[ The Dark Days? Is she talking about the war? The fact that she might know anything about him or what he could be doing is a terrifying prospect, and already he feels a bit of nerves seep in. ]

It's... a country, er -- a bunch of countries. Near Europe?

[ Maybe they're all just having a really, really bad dream. ]
trepidations: (light ¬ but the stairs were MOVING)

[personal profile] trepidations 2015-02-10 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
... WICKED?

[ Sorry, is that a real thing? Peter looks at him oddly, because in any other place, it'd be a term he'd heard on the street. ]

The Scorch? [ Thomas can be as wrong as he wants, because Peter isn't following any of it. In fact, all the talk about brain activity, being watched and tested, well. That does not sound good. ] Is that what this place is? I mean, there are -- I've never heard of that place, before, and it doesn't seem like we're in any danger, really.

[ ... oh you sweet summer child, Peter. ]
64th: (we don't have a clique problem)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-10 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ no hard feelings, Peeta. it's how you play the Games. ]

That's what they said. [ you know, after she attacked them with no provocation and then demanded answers while semi-hysterical. Cashmere is not going to be voted most popular, that's for sure. ] And they don't look or sound like they're from Panem. But... [ she shakes her head. she doesn't know. ] I'm not going to trust them any farther than I can throw them.

We need allies here, Peeta. [ and while the kids from Twelve aren't her favorite, at least she knows the people from Panem. that counts for something. ] It still feels like we're in the arena.
trepidations: (Default)

[personal profile] trepidations 2015-02-10 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Er -- what?

[ Wealthy? What is this guy on about? ]

Ransoming? I doubt it. [ Not him -- he wasn't valuable to anyone, of course. ] But you're here. How did you get here?
trepidations: (dark ¬ you're kidding me)

[personal profile] trepidations 2015-02-10 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Hotel Cali -- what? I'm in California?

[ That's in America, right? That land that should not be named? ]

Everything is gone? What do you mean by that? I mean, I can see things from the window fine, but I don't know how I got here, I was in a room and there was a suitcase and --

[ He's getting worked up by this strange place, and even more so by the strange, sickly looking person talking to him. ]

I think I'm okay, I'll stay standing.
trepidations: (gray ¬ oh shi-)

[personal profile] trepidations 2015-02-10 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I...

[ He hasn't always needed a wand to transform, to take the form of the rat he's often scurried around as. No less with James at his side, helping their friend. But now, he can't feel even the vaguest tinge of magic, not even the tickle up his spine he feels right before the transformation starts. ]

I can't, well, do it. I mean, transform. I tried, because I thought maybe I could get out, but. What's happening, Prongs? I'm...

[ He stops himself. He shouldn't tell anyone he's scared. ]
trepidations: (gray ¬ merlin's beard)

[personal profile] trepidations 2015-02-10 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I think... I think there may be a first aid kit around.

[ Really, he just needs a sleeping draught or maybe a good knock to the head. ]

I'm Peter Pettigrew. [ Though he's not convinced he wants her to know his name. She seems like the type to hold grudges, and he hasn't even done anything wrong yet. ] A hotel, but... I don't know much more than you do. Nothing about how... how we got here.
