sit yourself down, and meet the best inn keeper in town ( O P E N )

Who: Everyone!
Where: The initial arrival rooms, the main lobby, all over the place.
When: February 3rd
What: Welcome, newbies.

ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is a warmly crackling fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, though only one of them is open to the public. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.
on a tall pull-down screen, a silent version of nosferatu will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old timey music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl that looked like it once would have held popcorn. but is now unfortunately empty. same for the large hot drink dispensers labeled "hot chocolate" and "coffee".

OTHER.
the ballroom and breakfast hall are currently closed, grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the door to the courtyard is locked.

ROOMS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors one & two. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'd be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

( rude woman.

(she'd make a killer career, but seems a little too down to earth and logical, if not excessive, to be one of them. either way —)

katniss is just going to fix her with her best, meanest, most sour expression. and slowly, cautiously pick herself up, wary for any secondary attack. )

( but that's so not fair peeta. and the only way she can really, properly communicate her displeasure at his stance on his life is to very pointedly insist: )

I needed you.

( which is selfish and a little mean, but she'd practically snapped in two — had felt it in her chest and in her very soul — when she'd learned that he'd been left behind. even with him in her arms, it didn't feel like she'd fully recovered. and it hurt something awful to hear him think he doesn't matter as much to her as she does to him.

have more snot. ]

[ that is totally up for debate, shatner is a hero okay.

Gabriel meets that skeptical look with a nonchalant one, still somewhat amused by the whole thing. Don't worry though, the novelty will wear off after a day or two.]

Since you were nineteen? That sounds like a terrible life to lead, you should be aiming to do that at least once every two weeks. And I'm just trying to give you a headsup on the whole thing. If you want to wear yourself out then go right ahead. Captain.

I can do it to whatever I want, with whatever I want. That's the beauty of it. If I wanted to bounce you up and down some stairs, then there'd be nothing to stop me.

[The idea that he's a witch gets a laugh, Gabriel folding his arms and shaking his head. He hasn't been called that in forever and it usually came before him making a quick exit to avoid being burned at the stake.]

I'm not a witch, and I'm not a spirit. And you're starting to run out of options. If I feel nice I might let you know if you're getting warmer or colder.

... what?

Don't fuck with me. How do you not know who President Snow is? Were you dropped on your head when you were born? ((She crosses her arms tightly over her chest, brows wrinkled in a heavy frown.))
totheright: (complicated)

[personal profile] totheright 2015-02-17 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you should try to show it better. ((I mean, seriously. This guy is more ridiculous than most.))

It could. If we bribe whoever's in charge here enough, we could be out of here in a second.
totheright: (casual)

((Ah yes, he's familiar with that... but he wasn't very agreeable when it came to learning that sort of thing. He's lucky he was raised in a family that didn't quite care about his tendency towards rude bluntness.))

We've been kidnapped, right? I mean, that's got to be the most likely explanation for all this. Some sort of mass, international kidnapping.

[anything involving space travel will probably confuse him, but well, he's used to that. the modern world is strange enough, don't get him started on a future world.

still, the idea pleases him. that one day people will sail more than just the ocean. it's a nice thought, and a pleasant break from the current stress of the situation. ]

I gave you a drink, mate, I think you owe me.

[ one of these things is not like the other, but nobody ever said a pirate can't have unrealistic expectations. ]

[He gets it, nodding softly at her.]

Sorry, it must've been something that happened after I put the plane down.

[In the water. For seventy years.]
hacker: (that’s ridiculous.)

[personal profile] hacker 2015-02-17 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, don't sweat it. I knew it'd be kind of a long shot.

[ She waves a hand, dismissing it. ]

Anyway. Bigger issues, right? Like whoa HYDRA-napped. Which, admittedly, is not a first, but with you here, definitely seems worse.
64th: Do you have anything we can throw? (Alright; we need a distraction.)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-18 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ it was just a question. and now she's ruled that possibility out. ] Actually, there are some people I know here. From my home.

[ and with one exception, not people that she likes but beggars can't be choosers. ]

[ and that feeling is gone. allison doesn't know derek well enough to know if something actually is off or if she just imagined it, so as soon as he was back to acting normal again she decides to ignore it for now.

a few hours so not quite as long as her, but close. she wonders if that information is important enough to try to explore when he brings the conversation back to scott. to the fact he's here.

allison instead takes the 'right next to mine' as an explanation for how derek knew scott was here at all. allison nods, turning her eyes to the stairs. when derek goes on to mention that she should go and see scott, she turns back to him, almost guilty. ]

You sure? [ a beat, and then she takes a breath. no, that's the best idea. find scott and then move forward. ] And you'll be down here?
engender: (back turned)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-18 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ it's best she does and he's not going to indicate otherwise. not now and not later. if scott wants to tell her what happens, then he should. it's not derek's place. he wasn't even there at the time. He's about to answer how sure he is (very, though he'd downplay that), but she realizes that seeing Scott is the smartest thing. it's what both she and scott really need ]

Yeah, I'll be down here. If not, my room's 117. [ as opposed to 115, since he could be on either side of Scott. ]
withbread: (Help me)

[personal profile] withbread 2015-02-19 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ she's not wrong about him being unstable. however, he's not likely to kill anyone as long as they don't get in the way of him getting to katniss. ] Nice to meet you, Lydia. [ he says it in an off hand sort of way, a little absent. He doesn't give his name because this is an arena and panem. she knows who he is, doesn't she. thought when she says she doesn't know katniss, she gets an odd sort of look. ]

You don't know who she is? Katniss Everdeen. The girl on fire....
withbread: (serious discussion [katniss])

[personal profile] withbread 2015-02-19 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ perhaps it's not fair, but honestly, when has peeta played fair? he's playing the game to keep her alive. fair doesn't figure into it. he smiles ever so sadly at her ]

But you would have survived without me. That's what you do, Katniss. You're a survivor.

[ he can't even imagine that his supposed death would send her into that sort of state. of course, there's no obvious answer. peeta can't imagine a world without katniss and katniss needs him. the 75th games didn't give them an option that supported that. he'd done the next best thing. he doesn't want to hurt her. he's just telling it the way he sees it. in any case, it looks like she's going to get the next whoever knows how long to prove otherwise to him. ]
pronged: (lecture from mum)

trash. im just trash

[personal profile] pronged 2015-02-19 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! You should, uh-- definitely be flattered. She's fit. That's not why I married her but it's a nice perk.

[Okay Potter, just stop. You are cooler than this. You need to stop talking about Lily's arse and move on.]

Pleasure to meet you, Lydia. I'm James.
pronged: (maybe a little earnest)

[personal profile] pronged 2015-02-19 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
What do you mean, there aren't any doors?

[James rights his glasses on his face. Okay. That's odd but it's time to work out a way out of here. He's not afraid of no windows.]

Come on, Wormtail, pull it together. Afraid of a window? I never heard of such a thing. Not from the likes of us.

[And that's James pulling him down the hall. Straight for the windows my good man! It's happening!]
64th: (It's called civil rights this is the 90s)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-19 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ yeah whatever a non-profit is she's pretty sure they don't have them. ] Well it sounds pretty great. [ she gestures around them. ] Of course it's not this place but what could top a hotel with bad weather and no amenities?
mygame: do you know any riddles? (do you?)

[personal profile] mygame 2015-02-19 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Curiosity and confusion in equal measures meet Gabriel's words, both clear on the Nogitsune's face. It is rare that it encounters something or someone that doesn't fall into either of those categories. There is nothing it can think of that is beyond those. The laugh only serves to confuse it further since there is no cruelty or making fun of it in those tones.]

Not a witch. Not a spirit. But able to affect me.

[The creature scratches its head in a too human show of not understanding. Its former host had left a mark on it even if the Nogitsune denied it.]

Warmer or colder. Oh yes. [A game! This the Nogitsune understands and greets eagerly.] A magic user then? A priest?

Just — can you just stop talking?

( because he's really good at talking, far better than she is. but that doesn't mean he's saying anything she wants to hear, and there's no crowds to impress with his selflessness.

just her, who is much more easily consoled by hugging him tightly than she is holding this tragic conversation. can't they just stand in silence for a while, at least until she stops shaking? then she can wipe her face on the back of her hand and take a deep breath. glancing up and down the empty corridor, katniss spots the exit signs and squeezes the hand she's taken up instead (because no, she's found him again, and now she can't really ever let go of him).

with a not so subtle (stable) jerk of the head. )

Do you think we should go?
carjacked: (There is no sweeter innocence)

[personal profile] carjacked 2015-02-19 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ Maybe she's right. The way her fingers curl around his arm sends a warmth through his chest that certainly feels like life, it feels like a second (third? fourth?) chance, but he guesses that probably shouldn't be much of a surprise. Something about Emma always inspired that in him, the desire to fight, the desire to try harder and be better, to pick himself up and prove to her that he's worthy of every second she spends on him.

Maybe the solution here isn't to lower her expectations, maybe the solution here isn't to make sure she's braced for pain, maybe he shouldn't be making sure she feels as little for him as possible when he inevitably fails to be there for her again.

Maybe the solution here is to finally be there for her.

She won't be disappointed in him again if he doesn't disappoint her.

He swallows, eyes ducking down for just a second before they flit back up to her, brow knitting in earnest determination. He remembers telling her about how home felt, he remembers wanting to provide that for her so badly it hurt, and now he's overcome with the resolve to get her back there.

And it doesn't hurt that she called it our home. Like there's still a place for him there at the table, waiting. ]

I'm thinking we might have to slow down on this one. They're not gonna bring us here and leave us to our own devices forever, we just gotta settle in and make sure we're ready for them to show their face.

[ He tilts his head. ]

Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure that's not gonna be tonight, not with everyone and their brother down here tearing the place apart. I think all we can do right now is settle in, try and wrap our heads around this, get some rest and wait them out.
carjacked: (Maybe I'm a different breed)

[personal profile] carjacked 2015-02-19 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ See, now, this kid is taking this like... way too well, isn't he? He tugs himself away from the drawers abruptly, leaning on the counter and laying down some intense scrutiny on Fitz. People been trying to bring other people back for a couple centuries with magic, but tech? ]

No.

[ He answers flatly, a frown tugging at his features. ]

No, it wasn't- like that- hey, what- what the hell kinda treatments are we talking about here? Seriously, are people like Frankensteining where you're from? What's the deal?
pajarita: (he could've waited longer than 10days)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-02-19 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Fitz, I'm Raven. [and last she checked it was almost two hundred years after the last he checked, which is very...very strange.

she pauses in the unscrewing of the screws that hold the control panel together, and turns to look at him.]
What's your theory on portals and time travel?

The question is why.

[ Bucky says after a moment; the question had been burning in his mind ever since his arrival, and there are no answers forthcoming, not from anyone within the building. It's becoming frustrating, but he knows to wait -- moving too quickly could be a potentially deadly move, and he's willing to bide his time. ]

[ the frown just grows the more he says, because isaac keeps talking and looks more and more confused and allison's gut clenches painfully. because it's not just what isaac says, but the look in his eyes, the slant to his shoulders.

she doesn't recognize any of this. ]

A class or two? Isaac, we've known each other- [ she blinks, and then an idea washes over her. shifts her slight answer towards her confusion to curiosity. this is weird, but allison argent can deal with weird. can adapt.

she doesn't take a step back, but she does shift, leaving a little more room between them as she looks over isaac. tries to pick out details. ]

What's the last thing you remember?

[ casually ignoring his offer, sorry isaac. ]
