ARRIVAL.

you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.

there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is a warmly crackling fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, though only one of them is open to the public. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain. once you leave the hallway you wake up in, you won't be able to return.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.

though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.

on a long pull-down screen, a silent version of the phantom carriage will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old-timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl of popcorn and a large hot drink dispenser full of hot water, but without any tea or hot chocolate packets around.

OTHER.

the ballroom is currently closed, and the grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the doors to the courtyard and breakfast hall are unlocked, but looks like you've missed the morning meal. sucks for you.

ROOMS.

you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors three and four. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'll be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

EXISTING GUESTS.

it's late when the newcomers arrive, there's a good chance you'd been about to go to sleep (or just waking up, who knows, your mom's not here to tell you when to go to bed or get up). but if you're paying attention, you might hear the hustle and bustle in the lobby below; or maybe you're just drawn there because your gut told you to go join the commotion. whatever the case may be, go mingle!

[ Thea gives a small nod. Other people's hope and faith makes it easier for her to have the same. If other people believe there's a way out, then she can believe it, too. ]

I hope you're right. [ She pulls in a breath, tries for another smile. This one's marginally more successful at being real. ] I'm Thea Queen.

[emily isn't sure what to believe but she's determined at least. she smiles back though when thea introduces herself] I hope so too. I'm Emily Thorne— it's nice to meet you, Thea.

You, too. I mean-- [ She gives a vague gesture around the place. ] It'd be nicer under different circumstances.

Yeah, I know what you mean— definitely not the best circumstances to meet people.

[ Thea tilts her head a bit. ] Have you been here any longer than a month?

[unforgives]

[she shakes her head at the question] No, just a month— like most people who didn't just arrive today.

[usedtoit]

[ She nods. ] That's what I figured. Nobody I've talked to has been here for longer than a month.

[unforgives]

Yeah, it seems like we were the first batch of people they kidnapped.

[usedtoit]

[ A beat of silence, and then: ] Do you think people have noticed that we're missing? Like our friends and families? You'd think that a bunch of people disappearing around the same time each month would draw attention. And some of us aren't exactly low profile people.

[ Like, seriously. The Queen siblings go missing, somebody has to notice, right? ]

I definitely think people would have noticed— not that we have much to confirm that or even know what's happening outside of being stuck here.

I mean— I know that my own disappearance would have gotten a lot of people worried and practically sending out search parties.

[usedtoit]

[ She smiles, just a little, though there's no real humor to it. ] Mine, too.

So we either have to wait and hope somebody has noticed and they're coming to find us, or we have to figure a way out ourselves.

[unforgives]

You too, huh? [it's said with the slightest bit of curiosity before she nods]

Yeah, something like that. I'm kind of hoping we figure this out though before too long.

[usedtoit]

Absolutely. Wouldn't be the first time, either. [ Although last time she got kidnapped, it was more of a 'normal' kidnapping. Which is kind of saying something, all things considered. ]

Guess we can't really wait around for someone to save the day, huh? We gotta try to save ourselves.

[unforgives]

This has happened to you before? [for her it is definitely a first because it's rare thing for people to caught her off guard or do anything to her without giving her chance to prevent it]

But yeah, that's exactly right. The sooner we get ourselves out, the better.

[usedtoit]

Not the hotel thing. Just the kidnapping part. [ Thank God, because if there's one thing she knows for sure, it's that she does not want to go through something like this again. ]

Yeah. My business is not going to run itself. [ And she really really doesn't trust anybody else to do it. ]

This is a first for me— just being kidnapped in general. [or that she is aware of yet anyway]

You run a business back home?

[usedtoit]

Trust me when I say you don't get used to it. [ At some point, it just becomes annoying. ]

Yeah. I own and manage a night club called Verdant. My brother started it, but he apparently didn't get our parents' CEO genes like I did.
