checking in? ([personal profile] checkingin) wrote in [community profile] checkingout2015-03-03 09:01 pm

a gent of good intent who's content to be ( OPEN )

Who: Everyone!
Where: The initial arrival rooms, the main lobby, all over the place.
When: March 3rd
What: Welcome, newbies.

ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is a warmly crackling fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, though only one of them is open to the public. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain. once you leave the hallway you wake up in, you won't be able to return.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.
on a long pull-down screen, a silent version of the phantom carriage will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old-timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl of popcorn and a large hot drink dispenser full of hot water, but without any tea or hot chocolate packets around.

OTHER.
the ballroom is currently closed, and the grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the doors to the courtyard and breakfast hall are unlocked, but looks like you've missed the morning meal. sucks for you.

ROOMS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors three and four. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'll be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

EXISTING GUESTS.
it's late when the newcomers arrive, there's a good chance you'd been about to go to sleep (or just waking up, who knows, your mom's not here to tell you when to go to bed or get up). but if you're paying attention, you might hear the hustle and bustle in the lobby below; or maybe you're just drawn there because your gut told you to go join the commotion. whatever the case may be, go mingle!

"Good," Leela said, amusement touching her tone and curving her lips. "Most would see it as just violence. But, when you are not sure, punching first allows for an apology later. Maybe, if you feel like it. Sometimes, a well placed blow is for the good of all. Especially if they are an annoying person."

That earned another laugh, "Have a lot of annoying people where you're from?"

Red also made a mental note to keep her very far away from Ressler.

"There are a few," Leela said, amused. "One in particular. It is more threat than actually punching, though I have had my blade at his throat on a few occasions. He is irritating, but tolerable in his own way. It is fun to threaten him like I mean it, but mostly, I do not."

Red smiled a bit, "I think we all have those people in our lives."

In fact, his was here in the hotel. Thankfully, Ressler had a decent sense of humor about himself now. He was far too serious when Red had those men of Lorca's beat the hell out of him at that business meeting.

"They make life interesting," she said, leaning into the railing a little as she ascended the steps. She was going to hate them, soon, of this she was sure. An elevator would be nice, if it were not the death trap it appeared.

"That they do," or at least they made it more entertaining.

"I wonder if we'll run into anyone else up here," Red said off handedly. What he could really use was a break between flights of stairs.

"Too many stairs," Leela grumbled. "I'm surprised there's not more people just sitting on them." Stupid hotel. Stupid stairs. Stupid elevator. Another few stairs and Leela sat, back to looking incredibly cross.

"There I am sitting."

Red agreed with that observation, there were entirely too many stairs. So he decided to join her sitting on the stairs. From the looks of things, no one would bother them.

"I'm sure everyone has their own way of learning about their surroundings, and many of them are probably intimidated by all of the stairs."

"If stairs are intimidating, these other people have much to learn," Leela said, pulling a face. "They are like anything, if taken at a proper pace, it is surmountable."

Red couldn't help his chuckle, "I agree with you on both counts."

There was nowhere to lean where she sat, but she wished to do so. It was mildly frustrating, like being stuck standing long enough that her joints protested. Leela made due with leaning her chin on her hands and scowling down the stairs as if it were their fault.

There was just the slightest sound in response and she was quiet, contemplating what needed to be done next. Too many places to search, too many questions.

"I don't know if we're going to get anywhere if we continue."

Red was being honest, as he doubted either of them would like to climb the rest of the stairs to find nothing.

"Then perhaps we should not," Leela said, frowning at little as she contemplated their options. "It seems as if it is the same anywhere we do go."

"Why waste the extra energy?"

Red had a feeling that talking to the other residents might help more than just looking around.

Leela shrugged a little, but did not move. It was extra energy and in all honesty, she did not have much to spare this day.

"It is not needed, though I know not what I should do now. Perhaps I will sit for a bit. I think it has been a very long time since I have just sat."

"The same for me, I'd say about twenty years."

And that was a conservative estimate.

"That is a long time," Leela murmured. "And it is good to sit, when you are not running for your life." Right now, Leela was not and she was glad for that. It was just stairs and the company was good.
