sit yourself down, and meet the best inn keeper in town ( O P E N )

Who: Everyone!
Where: The initial arrival rooms, the main lobby, all over the place.
When: February 3rd
What: Welcome, newbies.

ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is a warmly crackling fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, though only one of them is open to the public. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.
on a tall pull-down screen, a silent version of nosferatu will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old timey music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl that looked like it once would have held popcorn. but is now unfortunately empty. same for the large hot drink dispensers labeled "hot chocolate" and "coffee".

OTHER.
the ballroom and breakfast hall are currently closed, grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the door to the courtyard is locked.

ROOMS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors one & two. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'd be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

No. No, god, I know who you are—You're Captain freaking America. Everyone knows who you are.

[ Perhaps not by sight like this, Skye. But she's used to nonchalance with her vaguely stalkery oversight. Their loss for not paying closer attention to files and every available second of camera footage. Skye takes superheroes Very Seriously. ]

Okay. Okay, Skye, just — Calm down. [ She placates herself, drawing her hands back to a soothing, zen gesture down in front of her, palms spread. A deep breath later, she turns a more targeted gaze on him. Focus. Back to the mission. It's all very attentive, snappy field agent, pushing aside the fangirling. ]

So it was them. [ She says it like that must confirm every suspicion she's had. Concern mounts. ] This was HYDRA. It had to be, right?

[ There's a sympathetic lilt to his brow, because yeah, he can get that. As much as Neal would love to see his son, he couldn't wish Henry here. Not without knowing what this place was, whether or not it was dangerous. Not if this really was the afterlife.

He scratches absently at the back of his neck, then shrugs. Gestures out vaguely. ]

Look, it's gonna be alright, right? We just gotta stick together, see what we can dig up about this place. Not like we haven't had to deal with worse than a... crappy motel, right?

[ There's a little optimism for you, Regina. On the house. ]

We figure out who brought us here, you put the fear of god in 'em, we'll get you back to Henry in no time. Just keep it together.

[ All with a forced sort of reassuring smile. ]

[ Failed prison break, abrupt awakening in a strange exit-less hotel... why yes, a sneak attack is precisely what Annie's day has been missing. Though really, she's kind of been expecting violence of some sort. She's still halfway convinced that this is an arena of some kind, a new Hunger Games, and where's the fun in the Games if people aren't trying to kill each other?

Sadly for whomever might be watching on their hidden cameras (just because she hasn't found any doesn't mean they aren't there), Annie goes down without a fight. She hits the ground hard, hands coming up to grab instinctively at the arm around her throat, but otherwise she's completely still. ]

...What? [ Are those even words? She'll just have to make an educated guess as to what her attacker could possibly mean. ] I don't understand you, I'm not... I just woke up here, I didn't cause this.
carjacked: (I swear she's destined for the screen)

[ He actually pauses when she squats beside him, fingers faltering in surprise. Guess she's the outgoing kind, huh? He actually takes the time to look her over now, seeing what he can glean from her outward appearance. Cute, he's gotta admit. ]

Don't get me wrong, a sledgehammer would be real nice right about now, but I think giving some of the people here bombs wouldn't exactly go over too well.

[ He mutters, only partly serious, tugging his eyes from her and scrunching his face up in annoyance. The hell, why won't this work? He huffs, tugs the pins fron the lock. ]

There's somethin' weird about this door.

[ He declares finally, staring at it like he can somehow figure out just what that is by looks alone. ]

[It seems equally strange to not call a place a home, to not have a city or at least a kingdom to claim to.]

Who do you swear to? [It comes out with a tilt of her head. Does she have a lord or a king? Surely, she must at least follow the Pope of Rome. The entirety of the Western world in her time did. Kings would indeed lose their kingdom if they did not follow him.]

The Ark of Noah's? [For it is the only ark she knows of. How even more perplexing and making even less sense than what she is barely able to grasp out of this conversation as it is.]

[personal profile] pontificus 2015-02-06 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
I can say with some certainty that I do not know them. [And the explanation of the acronym does not clear matters up for at all. Who are they and what do they want? She isn't entirely sure she wants the answers, but it does make her pause and look about as if they can descend on her at any moment.]

And what would they have us do here? Sure we can negotiate our release. [She says this used to a life of getting whatever she wants, using power and gold to gain it.]

[While having a woman act in this nature around her is not entirely what she is used to, her actions remind her much of how Micheletto acts around Cesare. It is jarring, but there is also a safety in it. This woman respects her position without knowing it entirely, and with that level of respect, in turn Lucrezia can relax minutely.

It is her kindness and her genuineness that shines through, and living a very sheltered life where people did just cater to her, she is not yet jaded enough to question why Tauriel seems eager to assist her. Lucrezia can use it, and so she gives her a graceful nod of her head, thankful for the offer.]

You are more than you may know. Instead perhaps we can venture together to see if there is some escape.
pontificus: (h a n d s)

[personal profile] pontificus 2015-02-06 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
[It is his manners that endear him to her, that regardless of his apparent class, that he is offering to help. Lucrezia cannot help the smile then, and she takes the proffered arm that he extends to her. She tucks it to her chest as she begins to walk.]

Lucrezia Borgia. It is a pleasure, Björn Ironside. [It is not entirely easy to get her mouth to make such a noise, but she mimics him as best as she can. Walking arm and arm with him, she must crane her head to look up at him. He has a great size difference on him, but it makes her feel safe in a way. He is truly noble, and it is not hard to be attracted in someway to that. Especially the amount of attention he is giving her. Lucrezia soaks it in.]

Is it a correct speculation to guess you are from the north?

[ well! look who brought his a-game. it's actually kind of a relief. not to be outdone, Cashmere beams back at him. ] Exactly. It's a pleasure to meet you properly, Peeta. Has anyone ever told you you're just as handsome as all your posters? [ she almost mentions the baby - fake baby, she's pretty sure - but she's still pissed about that so bites her tongue. ]

Did you ever find Mrs. Mellark? [ there is a laundry list of things for her to be mad about, most of which she holds against Katniss and not Peeta. after all, Peeta plays by the rules and Katniss doesn't. so deciding who to be mad at is easy. ]

[She understands his need to escape, the way he's going from window to window. He has no more success trying to pry them open than she had when she tried the one. All one can hear is the sound of rain outside, but the sight of the land out beyond is out of reach from them.

She gives a wistful sigh, outlandish next to him in her wedding dress made near a thousand years before his time.]

We seem to be stuck.

[ finally, someone else who cares about the fact that there's no food. what is with all these psychos who are unbothered by the complete and total lack of anything edible? this is why Cashmere doesn't like anyone. other people are idiots. ]

I noticed. [ she moves to pick up the bowl, wondering if it would be useful later. she's still operating on the assumption that any moment all of this could turn into a test of survival skills. and just in case it is useful, she's going to hold on to it for the moment instead of putting it back on the table. ] Are you always this jumpy, or is it just around pretty girls? [ sorry not sorry for sneaking up on you, dude. ]

I can open a door.

( go back in time? fix the past? atone for her sins? successfully wash all the blood off her hands? not so much. but listen, stranger she can open a damn door —

...or could. if it was her door. because tossing her hair in utter frustration when the door again refuses to budge, she catches sight of the small, (previously, once upon a time, before they got old) shiny numbers on the door. it wasn't like she hadn't seen them before, they were kind of obvious, but this time it truly registers that they're not 202, and her face burns. fingers fumble and she drops her card on the carpeted floor to the side of her feet. crap.

and with a quiet, very put upon sigh: )
I'm sorry.

[ he feels a bit frustrated with the oddness of the situation. Panem? he's never heard of it, and yet that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. there's lots of places in the Land without Magic he's never heard of. the important part is she doesn't seem to know where Storybrooke is. ]

I don't believe so. [ he has no way of knowing... it's just a guess, really. ] I've never heard of it, but I'm sure there are many lands I've not heard of.

A hat? [ he's no idea what she's on about, unfortunately. just shy of that revelation before he arrived in the hotel. he shakes his head, clearly deciding whatever it is, it's not relevant now.

he's sure that was physically painful for her, to admit he might have a point, but if anyone knows the Dark One, it's him. Regina may have been his student, Hook still chased him for centuries. between the two, they're as close to expert as they can get... except for Neal, perhaps. ]

There's people from different worlds, different lands. What kind of curse has that area of scope? And to what end?

[ he looks baffled, because honestly? he has no idea. ]
engender: (evolves suddenly)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-06 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ he lets her have her moment, he believes she's capable of opening any door she wants. she freezes, probably seeing that it's his door. it matches the key in his hand. the key drops and derek crouches down, retrieving it for her. ] It was an honest mistake. [ he feels for her, this woman he's never met. waking up here couldn't have helped. ] I know you can open a door, but would you like me to come with you, to yours?
engender: (counsels confidently)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-06 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
You built a pot out of a bucket.
pajarita: (unsure)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-02-06 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Not a pot -- [simple terms, raven, simple terms.] I rebuilt a fucking rocket.
engender: (challenges firmly)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-06 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
What sport were you playing? [ because, really, with people betting and wins and the general language she's using, this is what derek is getting out of it. a sporting event or some kind of reality show. maybe a combination of the two. ]
engender: (contemplates quietly)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-06 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
And then you flew it back to Earth.
pajarita: (but your blade)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-02-06 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
You're just repeating everything I say now.
engender: (time wasted)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-06 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Then you know how it sounds.
pajarita: (wanted to fight this war)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-02-06 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like I'm the youngest Zero-G mechanic there's been in 52 years, as well as the best one. It sounds like I'm freakin' awesome, that's what it sounds like.
engender: (remembers lately)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-06 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Why 52 years? [ What's so special about that number - wait. ] Zero as in zero gravity. You're a zero gravity mechanic. [ Before she can point out, again, he beats her to the punch. ] I know I'm just repeating what you say. What you're saying doesn't make any sense.
pajarita: (but your blade)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-02-06 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
[SHE WAS ABOUT TO POINT IT OUT but since he beats her to the punch she ends up flashing a grin.]

I'm a zero gravity mechanic. And why doesn't it make sense?
engender: (fits snugly)

[personal profile] engender 2015-02-06 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Because, you would have to be a Nasa-taught prodigy. People would have heard of you. Space stations would make the news outlets.
