sit yourself down, and meet the best inn keeper in town ( O P E N )

Who: Everyone!
Where: The initial arrival rooms, the main lobby, all over the place.
When: February 3rd
What: Welcome, newbies.

ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is a warmly crackling fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, though only one of them is open to the public. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.
on a tall pull-down screen, a silent version of nosferatu will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old timey music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl that looked like it once would have held popcorn. but is now unfortunately empty. same for the large hot drink dispensers labeled "hot chocolate" and "coffee".

OTHER.
the ballroom and breakfast hall are currently closed, grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the door to the courtyard is locked.

ROOMS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors one & two. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'd be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

[ he feels a bit frustrated with the oddness of the situation. Panem? he's never heard of it, and yet that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. there's lots of places in the Land without Magic he's never heard of. the important part is she doesn't seem to know where Storybrooke is. ]

I don't believe so. [ he has no way of knowing... it's just a guess, really. ] I've never heard of it, but I'm sure there are many lands I've not heard of.
64th: (Snow would throw up if he saw you.)

[ never heard of it? many lands he's never heard of? that goes against everything she's ever been taught about the world as a whole and it's enough to shatter the little calm she has. Cashmere steps back from him, and shakes her head. ] There's nothing outside of Panem.

I know what you're trying to do. Snow put you here. [ nothing like a healthy dose of paranoia to get off on the right foot with people. ] I've done everything he ever asked. I didn't earn this.

[ well that's just a limited way of looking at things, but he's heard it before. many people in the Enchanted Forest didn't realize there was a world outside the one they were living in. hell, a lot of them didn't even realize there were different lands in the same world as theirs. it's not an attitude he hasn't seen before...

only it's a little absurd now that they've all been cursed to a land completely separate from their own. he's starting to wonder about this girl, and the fact she refers to snow as a he doesn't help. ]

I highly doubt Snow is responsible for this, and I don't know why she'd be aiming at you in the first place. [ he has no idea who she is, but if she thinks Snow White is a vindictive creature, she's thinking of someone else. ]
64th: (i know. i'm good at everything.)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-08 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ Cashmere misses that 'she' and steps close again. she's not yelling, exactly, but it's clear that he's stumbled on a sensitive subject. ] Who else would be responsible? He's responsible for everything horrific that ever happened to me. I played by all the rules. I shouldn't be here. [ and then - she catches onto his pronoun choice. ] She? What do you mean, she?

[ right, it is very clear that he pressed a nerve. he even lifts palms in slight surrender. he's getting the sense they're having conversations about two separate things. ]

The Snow I know is a woman, is what I mean. I'm just as confused as you are, darling, and snarling at me won't help or give me any answers to give you.
64th: (Stop. each sentence is getting sadder.)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-08 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ snarling usually does get her what she wants. most people don't bother to intervene, her outbursts generally followed by her getting fed up and storming off to be angry elsewhere. but he is right, and she huffs in frustration. ]

Okay. [ so he really doesn't know much more than she does, and between the two of them they might know less than they did before. ] Well. You looked suspicious. [ said the crazy woman who attacked the first stranger she saw. ]

The back of my head looked suspicious? [ he's dressed in quite a bit of black and leather, but honestly, he's not buying. she was just hoping to get answers and didn't care who she got them from. sadly he's got none to share, he wouldn't have withheld them if he did.

he's used to snarling, though. he's kept company with all sorts of characters, so it doesn't work on him. snarling usually comes paired with magic, maybe he's desensitized to it all now. ]
I don't know what's going on, wish I did. From what I can tell, we're all suffering the same condition.

[ or someone is very good at pretending not to know what is going on. ]
64th: (oopise you said something super dumb)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-10 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! [ like she's going to admit she was wrong or that she overreacted. even though both of those things are true. seeing as how it got her nowhere, she might need to re-think her approach. ] The front of your head, too. [ she raises an eyebrow. now she's teasing, prodding at him for a reaction. ]

What kind of condition makes someone wake up in a hotel with strangers? [ but okay, yes. they're all in this together. unfortunately. ] It's not the flu.

[ hey now, what is suspicious about eyeliner? he's in a bit of a foul temper but still, he can take a joke. he offers a bit of a smirk at the addition. ] I'd have given you the back of my head but the front is perfectly reputable, thank you.

[ his brow rises at her correction of his vocabulary. it seems more that she wants to correct him having been spotted making a mistake and he'll let her have it (even though he's still right). ] However you'd like to put it, darling, we're stuck just the same.
64th: a co-worker who hates you?? (So you choose your dad over me)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-12 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Back of your head, then. We'll call it a compromise. [ she smirks back. that bad mood has got to be partially her fault. but if she's going to be sour about being stuck in this hotel, she'll take people down with her.

she does like being right, and him conceding on that point helps with her wounded pride. how was she supposed to know none of this hotel business is his fault? ]
Seems that way. [ she folds her arms across her chest. ] I have to find my brother. Is there anyone you're looking for? I can keep an eye out.

[ actually, his mood really isn't her fault at all. he'd already been in an uncomfortable place before arriving, and now being stuck again with no answers and no idea what is going on? well, it's been pretty corrosive to his more or less genial personality. he waves a hand, always one to gesture even though he has absolutely no reason to. yes, he'll give her the back of his head as long as his face gets a pass.

her brother. he frowns, just slightly. that's likely who she's asking for. ]
Gloss, was it? [ still a bloody odd name, but modern worlds did hand out strange ones on occasion. the idea of missing a brother is something he can understand, even though it's been centuries since he had a brother to miss. ] I'll keep an eye out for him, darling. [ as for someone he's looking for, well... ]

A woman named Emma. Or a boy named Henry. [ there's a whole army of Charmings, too, but those two are closest to his heart. ]
