sit yourself down, and meet the best inn keeper in town ( O P E N )

Who: Everyone!
Where: The initial arrival rooms, the main lobby, all over the place.
When: February 3rd
What: Welcome, newbies.

ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is a warmly crackling fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, though only one of them is open to the public. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.
on a tall pull-down screen, a silent version of nosferatu will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old timey music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl that looked like it once would have held popcorn. but is now unfortunately empty. same for the large hot drink dispensers labeled "hot chocolate" and "coffee".

OTHER.
the ballroom and breakfast hall are currently closed, grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the door to the courtyard is locked.

ROOMS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors one & two. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'd be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

arrival, then towards his room

[ 'Disoriented' isn't even the word.

'Unhinged' might be better and for a terrifying, paralyzing moment he wonders if he's dead. If he wasn't fast enough. If Gipsy detonated around him and that was that. He doubted that he'd feel anything if that was that case - the explosion would be so big and so catastrophic it would probably be instant. He wouldn't have felt himself die.

That had to be it, then. There is literally no other explanation for what's happened to him and as he rubs his eyes and takes in his surroundings, he's even more certain. Dark room, hallway. Suitcase full of his own things. Precious things, too. Things that he would, if given an opportunity, take with him anywhere he went. Rain pounding down outside.

Odd. Not what he'd think to have in the afterlife, but he doubts he's the one in control, here.

Even so, Raleigh's not a religious man but he figured the after like would either be some kind of weird paradise with glowing angels singing or a fiery cesspit of misery.

This is neither. It's just...confusing.

He grips his suitcase handle (because after he investigated it's contents there's no fucking way that he's letting go of it) and drags it into the hall, looking around, heart fluttering in his chest.

The key in his hand has a number. Nothing else to do but check that out, really. ]

[ she's not waiting for him, obviously, but Cashmere is waiting in the hall, staked out near his room. she's trying to scope out everyone as they arrive, and even better figure out who belongs where and who already knows each other. ]

You look lost. [ she feels lost. Cashmere's gotten a grip on herself and doesn't feel quite so crazy. she just needs to figure out who the hell these other people are, which so far means interrogating everyone she comes across with rapid-fire questions. ] What's your name? Where are you from?

I think I'm dead.

[ Honest, a little raw. He looks like hell, exhaustion beginning to settle into his bones now that he's not pumped up on adrenaline. ]

Raleigh. Anchorage, Alaska.
64th: (i'm watching caesar's legends ball)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-07 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm dead too. [ that's what Johanna said. nothing else makes sense. maybe they'll all dead. doesn't really explain the hotel, though. ]

Cashmere. Not from Anchorage, Alaska. [ never heard of it, actually. and he'll not have heard of where she's from. that much she's figured out so far. ]

[ He nods. Not surprising. He feels weird, like reality has distorted.

Funny coming from someone who was just in the anteverse. ]

Where from?

64th: (oh little mermaid what have you done?)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-07 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
District One, Panem. [ she shrugs. ] You've never heard of it, I assume?

I haven't.

[ But that doesn't mean a lot. ]

There's others?

[ Half question half statement. ]
64th: (please stop talking)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-08 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ she nods. ] A lot of people. Mostly from different places. [ she looks up and down the hall. not much of a welcoming committee. ] It's been a rough day. Everyone's a little - [ she gestures: crazy. ]

Pissed off?

[ He can't explain how he feels right now. Angry, sure. Freaked out, definitely. Curious, oh yeah.

Filled with dread and fearful to see if Mako is here. He wonders if his little trick worked, if the Breach collapsed. He might never know. ]
64th: (yes i am amazing)

[personal profile] 64th 2015-02-10 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ she nods. that's a good way to put it. ]

There's a tablet with a camera in your room. I don't know what it's for so I hid mine. There's no food and no staff. And no way to get out. Yet. I can't really find anything nice to say about it.

And now you know everything I do.

Creepy.

[ Smoothing a hand over his face before he leans down to check out the little tag on his suitcase. ]

Guess that's my room number. Maybe I ought to check it out.
