ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.
once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.
and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.
MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.
to your left is an empty, ashy fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, all three of them thrown wide open and welcoming. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain. once you leave the hallway you wake up in, you won't be able to return.
welcome to the hotel.
FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either. there is, however, a pad of paper and a pen neatly aligned with the desk edge. you know. for notes.
terribly sorry for the inconvenience.
SCREENING ROOM.
on a long pull-down screen, a silent version of the cabinet of dr. caligari will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old-timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old music.
along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl of caramel corn and a large hot drink dispenser full of hot water, with a few cups and some old looking packages of hot chocolate mix.
BALLROOM.
the third set of grand doors have been thrown wide to reveal a brightly lit, festively decorated ball room. all across the polished wood floor, all over the tables and chairs around the edge of the room, under the curtains, in the corners, hiding in the shadows, and behind the doors, characters will find:
easter eggs.
plastic easter eggs filled with jellybeans and chocolates, real eggs dip dyed and rolled in glitter; foil wrapped chocolate eggs, sugar eggs with little diaramas in the middle. there will be novelty plastic easter bunny rings sprinkles about, and general little plastic childrens toys. there will be plastic and paper easter basket grass sprinkled all over, and upbeat ambiance music intended to excite.
by the front door will be basket for people to use in their quest to collect the hundreds of eggs scattered all over the room. a sign on the floor invites them to "take one" in curvy handwritted script.
but there's no sign to warn that — some of these eggs?
are going to explode in your face.
( event details. )
OTHER.
the ballroom is currently open, and the grand doors locked.
there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.
the doors to the courtyard and breakfast hall are unlocked, food is currently being served. a lot of it is candy.
ROOMS.
EGGSISTING GUESTS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors four. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'll be better off taking the stairs.
while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.
there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.
EGGSISTING GUESTS.
happy easter, kids.

Grant Ward | OTA
egg hunt;
[Ward's waiting for someone to laugh but he's never been one to shirk free resources. Ever. In any capacity. So he begins shoving things in one of the baskets provided. Most of them are real eggs wrapped in glitter but he's figuring that downstairs there might be some of the chocolate ones.
He's kneeling on the floor in the lobby when something twinges in his side and he puts a hand, showing actual pain.
He doesn't think anyone's watching really.
If you want to grab the egg he was trying to grab however that's a horse of a different color. He might have quite a few things to say.]
breakfast;
[It's all chocolate. Chocolate and a couple of other things, very little fruit, very little actual food and he's trying to decide what that might mean.
That's why his breakfast (eggs, two pieces of bacon, and toast) is congealing while he stares unnaturally intently at the tables overflowing with food.]
egg hunt;
He nearly falls over Grant, staggering past him just before actually kicking the injured man. It doesn't help that he looks like he's already fallen because of pain, perhaps. ]
I appreciate the freedom we have to sit wherever we please, but I'm thinking you really should look at your options. This isn't a good one.

nothing. especially when he realizes who's standing there before Ward's features contort into anger. Then pain.]
Any chance to gather resources.
[There's a pause as he calms down.] Why? You hate easter egg hunts?
no subject
You might want to slow down before you re-open that thing and bleed to death. I won't carry you to your room next time.
[ A wry grin and he shrugs, though the term "easter egg hunt" is not something he's heard before and it shows on his face, raised brows and incredulous look. ]
Not sure what you're on about but it looks like you need to be sitting down. Or need to be sharing what you're on. Really.

[He hesitates before holding out a chocolate egg for the other man] Cadbury creme eggs are inside.

[moving silently towards him she slipped a hand out, stealing the egg his hand was just about to take. She tossed it up again, caught it and shoved it into a pocket.]
You always seem to surprise me. Never pictured you as the pastel basket, egg hunting type.

...Agent 33.
[His mouth works as he tries to climb to his feet and stumbles. Stiff. Way too damn stiff for his own good she's not a ghost she's really here and this...
He keeps his hands at his side and looks her up and down.] Jesus Christ you just arrived.
Did you just-
[I don't even know your name. He blinks.]
Did you just get here?
no subject
[He called her 33...]
[Her eyes narrowed under her shades and hood, frowning at him as he stood. head tilted she watched him so carefully.]
Yes. I just woke up here on the floor. What the hell is going on? [she spoke carefully now, guarded. Something was wrong.]
no subject
[He grimaces, instantly business.] Where's your room. We're in danger here.

egg hunt!
But he's watching Ward, even when the man thinks that no one is. Steve steps over to him, bends down and scoops up that elusive egg. There's no reason to get nasty though. Steve places it in Ward's basket.]
You looked like you could use a hand.
[There's a smile on his lips. Doesn't really reach his eyes.]
crying. steve.
He was six years old really and what kid didn't? He liked to pretend even that his middle name of Douglas was connected to Steve rogers instead of a paternal grandfather who hated him and who'd died under suspicious circumstances.
That was honestly before, before his brother told him point blank that no he could not be Captain America if they played, that he couldn't even be Bucky that he was regulated to one of the Howling Commandos (You're dum dum. Cause you're dumb.) and history - his favorite subject in school had been colored with hatred.
Stupid kid stuff.
Surprise turned to shock turned to scorn in a fraction of a heartbeat before he pulls a hand over his face and tries to stumble back to his feet.]
...Thanks.
[It's hard not to keep your gaze lowered or want to run. Really. Skye has to have told Captain America right? She has to, she has to be living with the guy, trading jokes - some kind of unit - and he...he? What was he.
What was he?]
It's the rain. Makes you stiff after awhile.
[He'll hold out his hand for the egg.]
no subject
He's having a little trouble meeting Steve's for some reason.]
Yeah, I hear it'll do that. [He hands over the egg.] Old injury?
no subject
I used to love easter egg hunts as a kid. Now I'm kind of worried about this chocolate.
(no subject)
egg hunt;
[ Skye comments coolly when she approaches from behind Ward. After the first egg combusted, she headed around to start testing them cautiously to figure out which were safe and which weren't. It stands to reason that SHIELD's duty to protect includes protecting people from exploding easter candy. But when she sees Ward picking one up, she doesn't dive to stop him from touching it—just folds her arms complacently and watches him reach. ]
That would be a very satisfying end to this story.
[ Of course, her commentary might be enough to slow him down. Which might, in fact, be the idea. ]
Re: egg hunt;
He stands up, egg in his hands. IT shakes white powder all over the carpet. Sugar scene destroyed.]
Sorry. Looks like I'll be keeping my limbs.
[he shrugs]
I know you're disappointed
no subject
[ Her agreement comes in terse form, and silence follows it. Her eyes flicker over to the pile of sugar, then back up to his face. ]
What are you doing, Ward? [ Because she won't accept the assumption that he's trying to test for dangerous ones. Not without an ulterior motive of some kind. ] Hoping you can keep one from going off, salvage the explosive material?

He walks over all the same, suitcase and key to his new room in hand]
Hello, Ward.
[There's a slight chill in the tone of his voice. Other than that, he sounds perfectly casual really]
no subject
Hey Coulson. [He's easy as he stands up, completely ignoring how his side screams in pain.] ....Here for a vacation too? Looks good. You look tense.
[Casual mocking was always more his style and that's when it hits him that this man didn't really know him. Never knew him and the fact that he only cared about him as far as information in the end...
He shoved confusion out of his mind. Keep it casual. Keep it on the surface.]
A real vacation. This place is shit but - [He shrugs]
Just get here?
no subject
Yeah. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're not the one responsible for this.
[he nudges an egg lightly with his shoe]
Easter doesn't seem your style.

Old muscle pull. Just... [He'll rub at his shoulder Damn it.

In the meantime, he bends down and scoops up the egg, handing it over. ] Old ones are usually the most problematic.
egg hunt.
Got into a fight?
Re: egg hunt.
And aware...
What he does lose is the element of surprise. He may not look surprised but he stays quiet and breathes heavy.]
Awhile ago.
More like a break up really. It wasn't amicable.
no subject
He notes the way he favors his side as well, blandly curious. ]
Some break up. Had it looked at?
