master of the house, quick to catch your eye (OPEN)

Who: Everyone!
Where: The initial arrival rooms, the main lobby, all over the place.
When: April 5rd
What: Welcome, newbies + happy Easter eggs.

ARRIVAL.
you wake up when you hit the floor in a dark room, and the air is knocked out of your lungs. the carpet is threadbare, worn with use, kind of dusty. and you're not the first person to endure this crash landing. nor will you be the last.

once your vision rights itself, you can see the well-lit hallway through the doorjam straight ahead of you. not to say there’s monsters in the shadows, but something propels you towards that door and out into the bright hallway beyond.

and once outside your room, you can hear it: the steady thrum of rain outside.

MAIN LOBBY.
there's a staircase at the end of the lengthy hallway you tumble out of. grab your suitcase and follow the dull green exit signs on the ceiling until you reach the disappointingly bland stairs that lead you down to the ornate old fashion hotel lobby.

to your left is an empty, ashy fireplace, to your right is a lobby desk. straight ahead are three large sets of doors, all three of them thrown wide open and welcoming. and outside the few (curtained, permanently dark) windows is the continually steady hiss of rain. once you leave the hallway you wake up in, you won't be able to return.

welcome to the hotel.

FRONT DESK.
though there is a bell and a plaque designating the desk to be the main desk, the customer service desk, there are currently no staff members behind it. none shall answer your calls, either. there is, however, a pad of paper and a pen neatly aligned with the desk edge. you know. for notes.

terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

SCREENING ROOM.
on a long pull-down screen, a silent version of the cabinet of dr. caligari will be playing on loop. at the back of the room, between the neat rows of fold out chairs, mounted on a wobbly table is the old-timey projector, and mounted on the walls are some rather old speakers that warble out "terrifying" old music.

along the curtained windows is another long table, with a large bowl of caramel corn and a large hot drink dispenser full of hot water, with a few cups and some old looking packages of hot chocolate mix.

BALLROOM.
the third set of grand doors have been thrown wide to reveal a brightly lit, festively decorated ball room. all across the polished wood floor, all over the tables and chairs around the edge of the room, under the curtains, in the corners, hiding in the shadows, and behind the doors, characters will find:

easter eggs.

plastic easter eggs filled with jellybeans and chocolates, real eggs dip dyed and rolled in glitter; foil wrapped chocolate eggs, sugar eggs with little diaramas in the middle. there will be novelty plastic easter bunny rings sprinkles about, and general little plastic childrens toys. there will be plastic and paper easter basket grass sprinkled all over, and upbeat ambiance music intended to excite.

by the front door will be basket for people to use in their quest to collect the hundreds of eggs scattered all over the room. a sign on the floor invites them to "take one" in curvy handwritted script.

but there's no sign to warn that — some of these eggs?

are going to explode in your face.

( event details. )

OTHER.
the ballroom is currently open, and the grand doors locked.

there is no main door leading to the outside, good luck trying to find one.

the doors to the courtyard and breakfast hall are unlocked, food is currently being served. a lot of it is candy.

ROOMS.
you've a room key with your assigned room number on it. all the new guest residences will be located on floors four. while there is an open elevator in the main lobby, and the buttons light up inside, the doors will not close. all in all, you'll be better off taking the stairs.

while they're the same stairs you undoubtedly came down to get to the lobby, the door to the endless hall everyone woke up in will not reappear between the main floor and the subsequent residential halls.

there are twenty rooms per floor. feel free to get to know your surroundings; or your neighbors as they trickle in around you.

EGGSISTING GUESTS.
happy easter, kids.

[Coulson takes note of Clint from the corner of his eyes and it's familiar enough that he finds himself turning his head to look in his direction just as his name is called. It's a definite confirmation of the other person's identity and almost immediately he has to squash the slight sense of guilt for keeping up the charade about him being dead. He smiles still, genuinely pleased to see him]

Agent Barton.
bettercallit: ([Clint] What)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-08 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ He's takes a step forward, closing the gap between them where the odd person wanders through, and offers a nod in a way of acknowledgement after giving him a quick once over.

Alive is a good look on him.
]

No offence, sir, but you're the last person I thought I'd see here.
avengeme: (weirder things have happened)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-09 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
None taken. It's a bit of a long story actually.

But first thing's first, what is this place?

[he'll be happy to answer any other questions later]
bettercallit: ([Clint] Sarcasm)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-12 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ He contains himself so they can deal with one mess at a time. ]

Welcome to the Hotel California, where the guests can check out, but never leave.
[ He offers a look, as if to ask 'What can you do?', to go along with the enthusiastic sarcasm. ] If it drives the point home, I've been here a month and, well, I'm still here.
avengeme: (discussion)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-12 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah that does drive the point home very neatly]

Great. I love confined spaces. [not really] Is anyone else here?
bettercallit: ([Clint] Attention)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-14 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
You and me both, sir. Best we've got is access to a courtyard, but it never stops raining.

[ He decides to let him digest that before laying anything else on him until he's ready; he's not completely heartless. ]

Not sure if you'll see it as good news or more bad, but Captain America made the cut. And a friend of yours going by the name of Skye.
avengeme: (determination)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-16 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow the look on his face when Skye's name is mentioned indicates how bad a news that is]

How long has she been here? [he'll ask about how someone managed to kidnap Captain America later]
bettercallit: ([Clint] Worried)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-16 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The look on Coulson's face reflects how he feels about the others being here, as if it's a hostage situation with innocent civilians caught in the middle, but he does wonder why Skye is the one he's most concerned about. ]

Not sure, sir. She was here when I arrived. Two, three months maybe. Possibly more.
avengeme: (wary)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-16 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson's eyes slide shut briefly before he opens them again, confused and concerned all at once]

That's impossible. I was just with her earlier today.
bettercallit: ([Clint] Concerned)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-16 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's a lot of that going around. Whatever, or whoever, is taking people, it doesn't seem to take them from a fixed point in time or place in the universe.

[ He's guessing there's a lot he's missed in the time since New York, but the subtle changes in Coulson are easy to pick out. He frowns openly as he wonders what he missed, and if it had anything to do with his supposed death.

He doubts it, but he has to ask:
] Is she a threat?
avengeme: (determination)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-16 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[the response is immediate] No. No, of course not. She's an asset.

... I should probably start at the beginning. [they both have questions for each other but from what it sounds like, they have more than enough time to talk between them.]
bettercallit: ([Clint] Shrug)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-16 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A relieved smile slips onto his face. ] Was hoping you'd say that. She's a good kid; I like her.

[ He shrugs, apologetically, as if to ask 'What can you do?'. ]

Beginning's always a good place to start. Do I need to be sitting down for this?
avengeme: (yeah huh)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-17 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson actually seems really proud] Yeah. She is.

[Then he grows more solemn and turns to look at the door to the ballroom] Let's go somewhere we can talk in private.
bettercallit: ([Clint] Smug)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-17 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ If nothing else, he's eager to find out how he came to adopt her into this team of his.

With a wry smile:
] Your room or mine, sir?
avengeme: (yeah no)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-17 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Whichever's closer.

[he looks down at his key and holds up the tag: 110]
bettercallit: ([Clint] Walking)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-17 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He holds up his own with a 401 etched into it. ]

Yours it is, then, sir. Lead the way.
avengeme: (entrance)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-17 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
All right.

[Coulson takes the lead up the stairs to the first floor.]

Did you get one of these too? [he asks, lifting the suitcase up briefly]
bettercallit: ([Clint] Unfocused)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-17 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He can't help but snort in the general direction of the suitcase. ]

Yeah. Thought it was considerate of them to pack for everyone. Not sure I like the idea of someone rooting through my underwear drawer, though.
avengeme: (this is important)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-18 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[he huffs in amusement]

I just hope they have good taste in suits. I'm guessing the chances of getting any sort of weapon in here is slim?
bettercallit: ([Clint] Talking)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-18 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Always thought your suits were your strongest weapon. [ But joking aside, he sighs, shaking his head. ] Best there is are knives from breakfast. But they tend not to stick around no matter where I stash them.
avengeme: (discussion)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-19 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson just grins] Thanks. [Then he looks thoughtful] What about pencils? We got any of those?

[he finds his room number and slides the key into the door to open it. He pushes the door open, giving the room a cautious once over before he steps inside]
Edited 2015-05-19 15:06 (UTC)
bettercallit: ([Clint] Cocky smile)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-21 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure we could rustle some up if we look hard enough. And, there's a pen at the reception desk, in case things get desperate.

[ He waits outside, view obscured, to be polite, and then follows him inside, closing the door behind them. ]
avengeme: (arms crossed)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-22 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. A communal pen. [of course. Why wouldn't there be one. He sets the suitcase down on the bed, reaching down to easily unlock and open it. When it opens, there's a model of a 1962 chevrolet corvette sitting at the top most of the pile, along with an industrial sized bottle of ibuprofen and a set of Captain America pajamas. He picks up the bottle and shakes it]

This bodes well.
bettercallit: ([Clint] Gentle)

[personal profile] bettercallit 2015-05-28 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Leaning against the wall, as if he belongs there, with his arms crossed, he watches Coulson poke through the suitcase and the smile on his face grows. ]

Least you'll be prepared. Guess it's gonna be a lot like old times. How is Lola, by the way?
avengeme: (spy dad)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-28 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It sure seems that way. [and Coulson has to admit. He does miss it. He grins at the mention of Lola]

She's great. Everything's in tip top shape. [and he's still the one personally maintaining it]

(no subject)
